10 January 2019
EcoWorld London, Brentford Football Club’s development partner for work on Brentford Community Stadium has been granted permission to extend the closure of Lionel Road South through to 31 December 2019.
Permission had originally been given to close Lionel Road South to cars, motorcycles and other vehicles until the end of December 2018, to enable the connection of utilities and to undertake complex road widening works at the junction of the road and the South Circular Road. It had always been the intention to close the road again for a period of time during 2019 in order to continue the works. However, as a result of protracted technical and legal negotiations, it will now be necessary to maintain the road closure throughout 2019. Permission has been granted by the London Borough of Hounslow.
The road will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists (although cyclists will need to dismount for safety reasons) and will continue to be temporarily closed to cars, motorcycles and other vehicles. During the closure to vehicles, traffic will continue to be diverted via Chiswick High Road (A205) and Great West Road (A4), and via Kew Bridge Road, High Street (Brentford), Ealing Road and Great West Road (A4).
Residents living close to Lionel Road South were informed of the ongoing road closure before Christmas through the latest Brentford Community Stadium Construction Newsletter, a copy of which is available on this website. A number of measures will be taken to ensure that road users of Lionel Road South are aware of the closure, including the placement of yellow road signs on approaching roads, street notices along Lionel Road South itself, and notification to the main navigation apps.
